I am so confused by this process. Is it supposed to provide something resembling democratic legitimacy? Considering that Beijing openly selects the sole candidate that is allowed to run, that feels of dubious value.
yes it helps to cement in the citizen’s mind their control of the country, provides a way to gauge the strength of the opposition and sometimes a way to divide them as well
